Research Approach

At Houston Methodist, our commitment is to develop and move the best, most innovative science and technology from the design bench to the patient's bedside through a program of translational and interdisciplinary research and education. We are looking to implement seamless integration of research and clinical care from multiple sources — internal or external to our organization whether local, national or international — because our ultimate mission is to be united in the service of our patients.

We employ three concepts to achieve these goals — a multidisciplinary team approach, an emphasis on collaboration over competition and a resource-rich environment of facilities, tools and educational opportunities. Our focus is on novel approaches to regenerative medicine, precision medicine, and outcomes, quality and health care performance.

An Interdisciplinary Approach
When you meet your physician at Houston Methodist, you are shaking hands with the many professionals that support health care in our system. Your physician will not act alone to provide you with excellent care; nurses, technicians and other specialists act in concert with your physician to make sure we have not left any stone unturned in finding the best care options for you. Our scientists, researchers and investigators play an enormous role in treating and managing your condition. Houston Methodist is home to four interdisciplinary departments and ten interdisciplinary programs including cardiovascular regeneration, nanomedicine, transplant immunology and systems medicine.

Working with Researchers around the World
We perform collaborative, not competitive, research to advance medical science. Our more than 550 faculty and members work with more than 1,500 credentialed investigators at Houston Methodist and a network of more than 62,000 coauthors around the world.

Supporting and Training Tomorrow's Health Care Leaders
We provide our researchers and affiliates with a resource-rich environment of tools, laboratories and training. In our state-of-the-art facility, the more-than-20 research core laboratories can perform tests ranging from advanced cellular microscopy to multiple forms of translational imaging. We also support cutting-edge technology and data analysis through molecular diagnostics, proteomics, flow cytometry, pathology, biomedical informatics and biostatistics support, microarray biochips design and a serum/tissue banking. And at any one time, we are training more than 500 health professionals in our MITIEā„  surgical training and graduate and postgraduate programs.
