Body Contour treatment

Patients who have experienced significant weight loss or undergone bariatric surgery will often develop loose, pendulous skin. Reconstructive surgeons at Houston Methodist can greatly improve the appearance of the skin and body tissue through innovative body contouring techniques. Physicians work with each patient to develop an individualized treatment plan.

Body contour restoration can include some or all of the following procedures: Removal of excess skin around the face, brow and neck; correction of abdominal skin aprons and sagging thighs through combined tummy tuck and body lifting techniques; removal of arm skin that hangs and produces a wing-like appearance , leaving only a scar concealed along the inner arm. Often with significant weight reduction, the result is a loss of breast volume and shape. Our surgeons perform breast lifts and augmentation that restore desired form. 

Surgical and outpatient treatments vary:

• Liposuction improves your body’s shape and contour that diet, weight control and exercise often cannot address. This is not a weight-loss method, rather this procedure can help shape your body from excess fat or bulges in specific areas. The process removes small areas of fat, usually from the hips, thighs, tummy, buttocks and even face, through a surgical suction technique. 
• Thigh lift removes excess skin to provide a more proportioned and firmer body contour for your overall desired image. A thigh lift can be done in conjunction with liposuction to help minimize inner and outer thighs.
• Upper arm lift (also known as a brachioplasty) is often done to remove excessive, drooping or sagging skin from the arm. The procedure tightens and smoothes the supportive tissue to define and shape the upper arm.
• Tummy tuck (also called abdominoplasty) is a cosmetic procedure that improves the appearance of the abdomen by removing excessive skin and fat. The remaining skin is repositioned or tightened to achieve a desired tone appearance.
• Botox® injections produce temporary muscular weakness and are widely used by dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons to minimize facial lines and wrinkles.
• Esophageal reconstruction is often required for cancer patients. 
• Reconstructive microsurgery is a procedure that uses precision techniques and a specialized microscope to aid surgeons in performing intricate operations on extremely small structures, such as nerve ends or blood vessels. Magnification makes visibility up to 50 times greater than with the naked eye, allowing the surgeon to stitch tiny structures, such as nerve ends or blood vessels, finer than hair. This technique is used for cosmetic, as well as reconstructive surgery on trauma or cancer patients.
