Description
To clarify the role of inflammation in the pathogenesis of AD, it is important to measure inflammation in brain of people with AD and its relationship with abnormal tau, as the disease progresses. So far, there is no in vivo data in humans verifying either a neuroprotective or harmful role of inflammation in the progression of AD, associated with tau spreading. To measure tau, we have so far used a single tracer, [18F]AV-1451. However, a more advanced tracer, [18F]MK-6240, is now available. In this project, we will use [18F]MK-6240 to determine the amount and distribution of tau in the brain, comparing it with the amount and distribution of inflammation, measured with [11C]ER-176 PET.
