Description
This study aims to look at the genetic differences between individuals with neurological disorders and healthy controls, and whether these genetic differences contribute to nerve conduction speeds. We expect that this study will identify a small cluster of genetic variants that are critical for the development of the best conduction speeds of action potential. These identified genetic variants will be further tested in patients with neurological disorders. We will determine whether these variants in normal controls are changed in patients, thereby predisposing them to develop the diseases. The neurological diseases to be studied include idiopathic polyneuropathy (IPN), multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease (PD), and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT).
