Faculty Appointments

Our office manages the academic appointments for the Houston Methodist Academic Institute (HMAI) and Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC), as well as the membership to the Houston Methodist Research Institute (HMRI). Faculty appointments are initiated through the HMAI, and then submitted for consideration to WCMC. Membership to the HMRI is available for HMAI faculty who are actively engaged in research. Faculty appointments are offered at different ranks in several different academic tracks. In addition, faculty appointments are offered for scientists, clinicians, and experienced professionals in industry, collaborating with Houston Methodist faculty.

Houston Methodist Academic Institute

The HMAI governs all research, education and academic innovation activities at Houston Methodist. It is grounded in its commitment to providing excellence and innovation in academic medicine, as measured by transformational research, robust education and leading clinical care. HMAI faculty appointments are available on several tracks, depending on your area of excellence, at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. Adjunct and Industry appointments are available for scientists and clinicians collaborating with HM faculty.

Houston Methodist Research Institute Membership

Faculty who are actively engaged in research are encouraged to apply for an HMRI membership. An active faculty appointment with the HMAI is required for HMRI membership. HMRI has different types of memberships depending on your involvement with research, at the ranks of Instructor, Assistant Member, Associate Member, and Full Member. Affiliate memberships are available for scientists and clinicians collaborating with HM faculty.

Weill Cornell Medical College Appointment Process

The affiliation agreement between WCMC and HM provides an opportunity for HMAI faculty to seek appointment to the faculty of WCMC. As our primary academic affiliation, obtaining an appointment with WCMC plays a large role in strengthening this partnership. WCMC faculty appointments are available on several tracks, dependent upon your pathway and area of excellence, at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor.
