Houston Methodist announced today that it has awarded nearly $4.5 million in community grants to 44 Houston-area nonprofit organizations through the Houston Methodist Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Grant Program. Now in its fourth year, this program supports community initiatives focused on addressing non-medical drivers of health that lead to health inequities experienced by social, racial and ethnic minorities, including individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, veterans, senior citizens, the LGBTQ+ community, individuals experiencing homelessness, foster youth and more.

Since the DEI grant program’s inception, Houston Methodist has provided 89 nonprofit organizations in the Greater Houston area with more than $15.8 million in grant program funds. In 2024, the program will support more than 52,000 people in the community through 22 healthy neighborhood programs, 13 educational empowerment programs and 12 economic programs. Two types of grant funding make up the DEI grant program — the DEI Grant provides support focused on educational empowerment and building healthy neighborhoods for minority communities, and the Social Equity Grant awards funding to cultivate employment and economic empowerment initiatives impacting racial and ethnic minorities.

“We are proud to champion impactful programs in our community to address some of the most pressing health and social disparity challenges that exist in the Houston area,” said Jill Campbell, director of community benefits at Houston Methodist. “Working collaboratively with local nonprofits like these incredible 44 organizations is a testament to our dedication to improving the health and well-being of the Greater Houston community and beyond, and we are pleased we can offer support to some of the most vulnerable in our community.”

In addition to the DEI Grant Program, Houston Methodist also works with local nonprofits through its Community Benefits Grant Program, which supports organizations working to provide affordable, high-quality access to health care and mental health services to those in need in the Greater Houston community. Letters of intent for the 2025 Houston Methodist Community Benefits Grant Program are currently open to local nonprofit organizations and are due June 10, 2024.
