Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital’s Birthing Center invites expecting and new moms – along with their partners and babies – to its annual Community Baby Shower on Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will feature demonstrations on how to safely use baby carriers, presentations on the importance of safe sleeping practices, and a Sugar Land police officer will be speaking about car seat safety. In addition, lactation consultants from the Birthing Center will be available to talk one-on-one with moms and provide guidance and support.

“This is a great opportunity for new moms to speak directly with someone who understands their concerns,” said Donna Timmer, lactation consultant.  “In the past, we’ve had great discussion at this event, and it’s been a very beneficial experience for our attendees.”

Timmer says new moms, their partners and babies are welcome to stop by any time during the shower, which will be held in the Sweetwater Pavilion on the Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital campus. Demonstrations will be repeated several times throughout the event, and light refreshments will be provided. Attendees can also participate in several drawings.

“This is a fun event, but it’s also a great outreach program,” said Timmer. “Our goal is to celebrate new and expecting moms and help them master the techniques they need to know in order to care for their newborns. Sometimes a mom gets home from the hospital and realizes that she needs additional support or information, and we’re here to help.”
