Orthopedic Surgery Experts to Present Cutting-Edge Research at AAOS Annual Meeting

Feb. 6, 2025 - Eden McCleskey

Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine specialists will showcase groundbreaking research at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) 2025 annual meeting, scheduled for March 10-14 in San Diego, California.

As part of the world's largest gathering of musculoskeletal professionals, the Houston Methodist physicians will deliver podium presentations on research that aims to enhance quality, safety and outcomes in hip and knee arthroplasty.

Intraosseous Administration of Vancomycin in Hip Arthroplasty

On March 11 at 12:10 p.m., Dr. Kevin Park will present a retrospective study on the safety and efficacy of intraosseous vancomycin in primary total hip arthroplasty. This research evaluates infection rates and postoperative complications when vancomycin is administered directly into the bone as compared to intravenously. The study, co-authored by Bradley Lambert, Dr. Timothy Brown, Dr. Stephen Incavo and Dr. Terry Clyburn, is the first of its kind in this domain.

Robotic-Assisted Total Knee Arthroplasty and Sagittal Plane Alignment

Dr. Park will also present findings on robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty on March 12 at 1:30 p.m. The study explores how robotic platforms enhance precision in sagittal plane resections, though the long-term clinical impact remains under investigation. Co-authors of this research include Dr. Justin Aflatooni and Dr. Timothy Brown.

Allergic Contact Dermatitis and Dermabond Prineo in Joint Arthroplasty

On March 13 at 9:14 a.m., Dr. Timothy Brown will discuss the incidence of allergic contact dermatitis related to the Dermabond Prineo skin closure system in total joint arthroplasty. The retrospective review of 340 procedures found a 4.7% incidence rate, larger than previous studies have reported. Collaborators on the study include Dr. Terry Clyburn and Dr. Kevin Park.
