When it comes to chest pain, time is of the essence. Houston Methodist has 24-hour Chest Pain Units within our emergency departments — where you can be evaluated by a team of specialists and treated immediately upon arrival with chest pain.
If a heart attack is indicated, our highly skilled doctors provide state-of-the-art treatment during the critical early stages of a cardiac event.
The Chest Pain Unit at Houston Methodist Hospital was the first in the Texas Medical Center to be nationally accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC). Among Houston Methodist’s system of hospitals, Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital also received full accreditation with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) from the SCPC. In addition, Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital continues to uphold its Chest Pain Center accreditation from the SCPC.
This designation is reserved for hospitals across the country that demonstrate the highest level of expertise in treating people experiencing a heart attack. This accreditation recognizes Houston Methodist’s expertise and commitment to quality patient care — in addition to the ability to meet or exceed the society's stringent criteria as well as performance in on-site evaluations by an expert review team.
The Chest Pain Unit provides the following benefits:
- Doctors can monitor you closely as you are being evaluated
- Ensures that, if you have atypical chest pain, you aren’t sent home too early or needlessly admitted to the hospital
- Provides services ranging from cutting-edge cardiac imaging and testing to access to our highly skilled interventional cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons
