Long-Term Acute Care
Many patients require extended hospitalization after a short stay in an acute care hospital. Long-term acute care hospitals (LTACH) are designed for patients with complex clinical needs who require intensive medical and rehabilitative care, and who are not well enough for placement in a skilled nursing or rehabilitation facility. Patients are provided daily care from a dedicated medical team for about 18 to 25 days, until they are ready to return home or transition to an appropriate non-acute care facility.
LTACH services include medical management of pulmonary care for ventilator-dependent patients, complex wounds, infectious disease, post-surgical complications, trauma and neurological injuries, as well as other conditions.
At Houston Methodist, our care team works with patients and their families from planning and treatment to discharge and recovery to provide the highest quality of care.
