Observerships
Houston Methodist Global Health Care Services’ observership program allows physicians, residents and medical students who are invited by a Houston Methodist physician to shadow procedures and surgeries, attend patient rounds and teaching conferences, learn about the Houston Methodist culture and interact with our experts. The program is typically two to four weeks in length and does not include direct patient care or research involvement.
Audience and Eligibility
The program is open to:
• Fully trained international physicians practicing abroad
• International medical students, residents and fellows who are currently enrolled at a foreign institution and are expected to graduate from that institution
Onboarding Process
- Observerships must be requested and initiated by a Houston Methodist physician. Once a physician agrees to serve as a preceptor, he or she will contact the Houston Methodist Global Education & Training office to confirm the observership.
- The observer, preceptor and department administrator will complete the Houston Methodist Global Observership Agreement form.
- Once the form is received, the observer will receive a link and instructions to complete the online application. Applications cannot be processed until all required forms and documents are complete.
The application process requires a minimum of four weeks to complete. Please plan your start date with your preceptor accordingly.
Letter of Completion
Upon request, participants will receive a letter of completion from Houston Methodist Global Education & Training for the dates of the observership.
