Neurosurgery Residency
Training the next generation of neurosurgical leaders while integrating top‑level research and leading‑edge technology
A seven-year residency program in neurosurgery provides extensive exposure to advanced operative techniques, neurophysiology, neuropathology and neuroradiology. The program includes a full year of protected research time and eight months of focused subspecialty exposure in preparation for careers in research or clinical practice.
NeuralCODR Program
NeuralCODR
Neural Control of Organ Degeneration and Regeneration (NeuralCODR) is an NIH-funded, cutting-edge, and cross-disciplinary training program at the intersection of neurophysiology and organ engineering/modeling with a thoughtful integration of statistical methodology and experimental design. Seeded by the Paula and Rusty Walter Endowment, this two-year National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded post-doctoral training program (T32NS126115) brings together 29 regeneration biologists and neurophysiologists and 12 clinical researchers across multiple institutions with a rich history of research training, clinical modeling, and education.

Center for Neural Systems Restoration
Houston Methodist and Rice University established the joint Center for Neural Systems Restoration to serve as an innovation hub dedicated to advancing the frontiers of translational neuroscience, to understanding the function of the human brain, and to developing next-generation technologies, neural prosthetics and rehabilitation regimens for the treatment of neurological conditions. This joint collaborative space and environment nurtures functional interactions between engineers and researchers at Rice and neurosurgeons, neuroscientists, and regeneration biologists at Houston Methodist.
Neuroscience PhD Program
New Ivy League Neuroscience PhD Program
Houston Methodist initially collaborated with the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences (WCGS) to offer a doctoral program in Physiology, Biophysics, and Systems Biology (PBSB), which recently accepted its third class of students. In 2023, WCGS expanded its PhD program in Neuroscience to Houston Methodist with its first class of students. This new program spans basic, translational and clinical research.
Surgical Precision
Through our primary academic affiliation with Weill Cornell Medical College, we're proud to be ranked in the 98th percentile nationally for education in the neurological sciences.
Our fully accredited educational programs provide exposure to complex cases, state-of-the-art technology, and high patient volumes and are designed to prepare the best and brightest future neurosurgeons.
