Biography

Dr. Thomas R. McCarty was born and raised in Houston, TX, prior to attending Baylor University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts.  He then received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, and subsequent Residency training at Yale-New Haven Hospital.  After completion of Residency, he remained at Yale School of Medicine for an additional year, serving as an Instructor of Medicine and Chief Resident. He then continued training in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy Fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School. During his time in Boston, MA, he also earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health and completed two additional training fellowships in Bariatric Endoscopy and Advanced Endoscopy at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School.  He has been trained and worked alongside pioneers of interventional gastroenterology and bariatric endoscopy to use the latest techniques and minimally invasive approaches in the field.

Description of Research

His clinical interests include the treatment of a variety of digestive disorders, such as pancreaticobiliary disease and obesity. As a clinical researcher, his interests include the development of innovative endoscopic techniques and procedures that aim to provide minimally invasive therapies for difficult-to-treat gastrointestinal conditions.  He is triple-board certified in Internal Medicine, Obesity Medicine, and Gastroenterology and has published more than 150 peer-reviewed articles, reviews, editorials, and book chapters as well as given multiple national and international presentations in the areas of interventional endoscopy and obesity.
