Eligibility & Application

Houston Methodist’s PGY2 Solid Organ Transplant Residency is fully accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and has specific hiring processes and employee requirements.


Positions: Two


Duration: 12 months beginning in early July


Application Process:

  • Send in application materials as early as possible as interview spots are limited.

 

Interviews:
The residency program participates in the Personnel Placement Service at ASHP Midyear Clinical meeting. Interested candidates are encouraged to participate to learn more about the program and meet our representatives. Onsite interview is required.


Selection:
Selection is through the National Matching Services. Our National Matching Service code is 619076. Once you are matched with Houston Methodist Hospital, you will receive an offer letter to sign and return to the respective residency program director (RPD).


Stipend: $55,954/year

Drug/Tobacco and Background Screening:

Houston Methodist is committed to improving the health of our patients, employees and community. As a health care provider, it is our responsibility to promote a healthier environment for our employees. Accordingly, effective January 1, 2013, Houston Methodist no longer hires tobacco users. Applicants will be tested for tobacco usage during the post-offer physical and drug screening. If an applicant tests positive for tobacco use or recreational drug use, the offer will be rescinded.


Onboarding and Orientation:
Residents new to Houston Methodist will spend their first month getting oriented to the hospital, pharmacy department, computer systems and residency program. If you are not already BLS- or ACLS-certified, you will complete these certifications during this time.

For PGY2 programs and PGY2 residents starting from outside HM, at the start of the residency year, the PGY1 residency certificate or a letter of completion is required. If a letter of completion is provided, the residency certificate must follow within 90 days. Failure to attain the PGY1 residency certificate within the specified timeframe shall result in immediate termination.

 

Licensure:
Out of state residents must apply to be a pharmacist-intern in the state of Texas prior to the start of the program due to the waiting period for pharmacist licensure.


You will have 90 days from your start date to become licensed in the state of Texas. It is advised to start the process once you find out you are matched with Houston Methodist Hospital. Failure to do so will result in termination of employment.
