Required Learning Experiences
There are seven (7) required learning experiences [four (4) weeks in duration unless otherwise noted]:

  • Orientation (4-5 weeks)
  • Inpatient Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy (6 weeks) 
  • Inpatient Malignant Hematology (5 weeks)
  • Inpatient Medical Oncology
  • Cancer Center Infusion and Oral Chemotherapy Clinic
  • Outpatient Medical Oncology Clinics (6 weeks) 
  • Oncology Pharmacy Operations/Management and Specialty Pharmacy

Longitudinal Learning Experiences

  • Outpatient Hematology/Oncology Clinics (starts in second half of residency year)
  • Investigational Drug Service/Clinical Trials Experience
  • Practice Management
  • Major Research Project
  • Quality Improvement (QI) Project
  • Clinical Education/Training & Staffing

Elective Learning Experiences

  • Infectious Diseases (Immunocompromised Host)
  • Neuro-Oncology Clinic
  • Palliative Care 
  • Outpatient Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology Clinics
  • Outpatient Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy
  • Inpatient Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy II
  • Inpatient Malignant Hematology II
  • Inpatient Medical Oncology II
  • Outpatient Oncology Clinics II
  • Pediatric Oncology (Texas Children's Hospital)
  • Academia

Additional elective learning experiences may be developed based on resident interest and preceptor availability

Staffing

  • Staffing every 3rd weekend primarily on BMT, hematology and oncology floors and one weekday evening shift every two weeks, averaged over a four-week period
  • Resident will work one major and one minor holiday

Presentation Opportunities

  • Optional poster presentation at Vizient Pharmacy Network Meeting
  • Poster presentation at Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA) Annual Meeting
  • Platform presentation at Midwest Pharmacy Residents Conference
  • One hour ACPE-accredited continuing education program

Research Experience

  • Major research project with guidance of a preceptor and the Pharmacy Research Committee
  • Medication Use Evaluation or Quality Analysis of existing protocols
  • Submit two oncology-related writing assignments suitable for publication
