PGY1 Pharmacy Residency - Houston Methodist West
WELCOME
Thank you for your interest in the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program at Houston Methodist West Hospital. Through a unique combination of individually tailored clinical experiences, drug information opportunities, medication safety initiatives, and research endeavors, residents will have the opportunity to advance the growth of pharmacy profession, contribute to the advancement of the medical and pharmacy literature, and develop clinical, teaching, and leadership skills.
Residents will train at Houston Methodist West (HMW), a fast growing, acute-care, community hospital, that delivers the world‑renowned Houston Methodist standard of high quality, advanced technology and personalized care to the West Houston and Katy communities. In 2024, HMW had 271 beds, 24 operating rooms (OR), and 25 intensive care unit (ICU) beds with a dedicated intensivist team. Additionally, HMW has a level III NICU (19 beds) and 39 private emergency treatment rooms, including 5 major trauma rooms. The hospital provides patient-focused and high-quality care as evidenced by its multiple awards and recognitions, including magnet recognition and the Exemplary Five Star Award from the Texas Department of State Health Services. In collaboration with our academic programs at Houston Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center, residents will also be involved in various research and patient care-based projects, allowing for a fulfilling academic experience.
Pharmacists are heavily relied upon by the medical staff for provision of an expansive array of clinical pharmacy consult services, thereby providing residents exceptional training opportunities while having the freedom to practice autonomously.
PURPOSE STATEMENT
