About the Fellowship
The Houston Methodist Hospital Endocrinology Fellowship Program is a fully accredited by ACGME and accepts three fellows per year (for a total of six fellows). The program is designed to train endocrinologists for academic careers as well as clinical practice. We tailor our training program structure to meet the goals of each individual trainee, with a focus on developing core competencies in clinical endocrinology and research.
Message from the Program Director
Welcome, and thank you for visiting the website of the Endocrinology Fellowship at Houston Methodist Hospital. Our endocrinology service is ranked among the best programs by U.S. News & World Report. The Houston Methodist Hospital itself is ranked among the country's top hospitals in 10 specialties in U.S. News & World Report's 2016 "Best Hospitals" issue, ranked as the No. 1 hospital in Texas with a national ranking of No. 8 in endocrinology.
Our faculty members are experienced clinicians, educators and researchers with wide ranging areas of expertise across all subspecialties of endocrinology. Our fellowship spans two years with the first year being dedicated to clinical training. The second year offers additional clinic training with opportunities for scholarly activity and research along with enhanced outpatient endocrine training. Our program is centered at Houston Methodist Hospital. The fellows also do clinical rotations at MD Anderson, Texas Children’s Hospital as well as at Legacy Clinic, a federally qualified health center. Our clinical team includes our faculty and fellows along with residents from the Houston Methodist Internal Medicine Residency and students from Texas A&M College of Medicine.
The clinical training environment allows for a wealth of diverse clinical exposure, spanning the entire spectrum of endocrinologic disease including uncontrolled type 1 and 2 diabetes, transplant endocrinology, pituitary disorders, calcium and metabolic bone disease, adrenal disease, thyroid disease, endocrine neoplasms and rare genetic diseases. Houston Methodist Hospital which is a nearly 900 bed hospital with five large intensive care units, with busy cardiovascular, pituitary, thyroid and adrenal surgical services and a large multi-organ transplant program contribute to the abundance of clinical experience available. Along with the inpatient rotations, a comprehensive experience in outpatient endocrinology, including two continuity clinics in two diverse patient populations, insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor exposure, thyroid ultrasound and fine needle aspiration clinics along with training in DXA reading and interpretation is a vital part of the program.
Our program participates in the NRMP match with applications through ERAS. We offer a two-year ACGME-accredited fellowship.
Should you have any additional questions, or need further clarification about the program, please do not hesitate to contact me or the fellowship coordinator.
Thank you for your interest in our program. We wish you every success in your future career.
