About Our Program
About Our Director
The Breast Program at Houston Methodist Hospital, offer a one-year clinical based fellowship. The Breast Imaging Fellowship offers a supportive and fast paced environment that focuses on quality patient care. Our dedicated breast imaging radiologist offer structure and supervision to ensure that each fellow is a well-trained radiologist.
The fellowship training incorporates all aspects of breast imaging, including:
- screening and diagnostic mammography
- breast ultrasound, including ultrasound-guided biopsy
- breast MRI and MRI-guided biopsies
- contrast-enhanced spectral mammography
- digital tomosynthesis
Research and teaching opportunities exist, along with weekly breast conferences. The fellowship program will include active conference participation in surgery, pathology, plastic surgery and radiation oncology.
Training takes place at 3 of the 8 Houston Methodist Breast Centers, located in the Texas Medical Center and surrounding areas. Houston Methodist Hospital is a large diverse system that has been ranked #1 in Texas by U.S. News & World Report and is one of the top 20 hospitals in the state.
Our mission is to provide the highest quality training to build the foundation for the next leaders in breast imaging and the knowledge and skills to be an advanced clinical fellow or instructor.
About Our Director
The program director, Luz Venta, MD, received her first faculty appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiology at the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois. She became an Associate Professor and the Medical Director of Breast Imaging Centers at the Lynn Sage Comprehensive Breast Center of Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Venta was recruited to Houston Methodist Hospital to lead the Breast Care Centers as the Medical Director, and join the faculty appointment at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Dr. Venta has a longstanding interest and publications in breast imaging and interventional breast procedures. She has extensive peer review publications on her areas of interest. Dr. Venta and her team enjoy teaching fellows and residents.
Eligibility and Application
Thank you for your interest in our Breast Imaging Fellowship. Our program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). The match is sponsored by Society of Breast Imaging. Eligibility for application and acceptance to this 1 year Breast Imaging Fellowship include:
Eligibility
- Houston Methodist Fellowship application with requested documents.
- Graduation from a 4 year radiology residency
- Must hold a full Texas Physician Medical license.

Responsibility
- Drug and Tobacco Screening- Job seekers will be tested for nicotine and drug usage during the post-offer physical. If a job seeker tests positive for nicotine use, including nicotine gum and patches, the offer will be rescinded, and individuals will be given the opportunity to participate in a free Houston Methodist-provided tobacco cessation program. Job seekers wishing to reapply after testing positive for nicotine may do so 90 days after the date the initial offer was rescinded. If the job seeker tests positive for drug use, the offer will be rescinded. Job seekers wishing to reapply after the drug screening is positive may do so one year after the date the initial offer was rescinded.
- Background Check - Prior to employment start date, job seekers must complete a criminal background check.
