Pre-Intern Training for Vascular Residents
This course is designed to teach 4th-year medical students matched into integrated vascular surgery residencies the skills that will allow them to be functional on the floor and in the OR from their first day. Pre-intern Training features hands-on and didactic learning to build attendees’ skills and confidence in a range of practical vascular surgery topics.
Attendees have access to a playlist which includes a full curriculum in vascular surgery for integrated residents, MCQs and technical videos. They receive assignments to study online material before arriving in Houston as preparation for hands-on training.
Target Audience
Fourth-year medical students who have matched into integrated vascular residency programs will benefit from this training.
Learning Objectives
In just three days, attendees learn how to gown and scrub, recognize instruments and devices, place central lines, do ABIs and master basic suturing techniques. Workshops cover:
- Applied anatomy
- Vascular exposure and managing complications
- Basic ultrasound principles
- Ultrasound-guided access
- Endovascular techniques
- Radiation safety
COST
Limited funding is available on a first-come-first-served basis. A stipend of $200 may be offered towards travel for out-of-town attendees (airfare and airport shuttle). To qualify for the stipend, attendees must stay for the entire duration of the course.
