Open Aortic Training Course
With the reduction in open vascular cases, there is increasing concern that trainees have fewer opportunities to build their open skills. This is particularly concerning with open aortic repair, where the advent of endografts has resulted in a dramatic reduction in the experience level of finishing trainees. Lack of aortic experience is the number one concern for trainees and program directors alike. Open Aortic Training is an intensive two-day course focused exclusively on open aortic repair and is the first of its kind in the United States that attempts to address this gap in aortic experience.
Highly experienced vascular surgeons will train attendees using operative videos, cadaver videos, Pontresina aortic models and cadaver models. Under expert guidance, trainees will practice open aortic exercises on a variety of exposures and approaches, giving each participant the chance to hone his or her skills in a low-risk, educational environment.
Target Audience
Vascular fellows and PGY5 integrated residents will benefit from this course.
