Case Study: Health Records on iPhone
Integration of Patient Health Records into iPhone's Health App
Purpose
In January 2018, Apple released plans to integrate patient health records into the iPhone's Health app as part of its iOS 11.3 beta rollout. The program first launched at 12 hospitals, and in August 2018, Houston Methodist became the first Houston-area hospital to join the project.
Integrating critical health records data into the native iPhone Health app was an opportunity to partner with a true technology innovator on a beta-level rollout.
Impact
Providing access to individual medical records in one central app — in this case, the Apple Health iOS app — improves patient experience and reduces calls and requests to medical records offices.
"By offering a tool that lets them access their medical records, we are empowering patients to be in control of their own health. This is the type of innovation we are committed to providing patients."
