Breast Cancer Clinical Trials & Research

Experts at Houston Methodist don’t just treat breast cancer. Our physician-scientists and researchers are also dedicated to identifying new ways of preventing, diagnosing and treating breast cancer through research and clinical trials.

Clinical Trials for Breast Cancer

Our breast cancer clinical trials help support the mission of bringing the latest technologies and treatments to breast cancer patients as quickly and safely as possible.

Types of Clinical Trials for Breast Cancer

Just as there are many types of breast cancer, our experts are conducting many different types of clinical trials aimed at fighting breast cancer. These range from trials assessing new combinations of existing treatments to studies of new breast cancer treatment options.

We also conduct clinical trials related to breast cancer prevention, as well as ones aimed at reducing and better managing the side effects of treatment.

Are Clinical Trials for Cancer Safe?

Clinical trials are highly regulated, with strict safeguards in place to protect trial participants. For instance, clinical trial regulations prevent participants from being exposed to experimental drugs with unreasonable risks. Side effects or reactions to the treatment may happen but are closely monitored.

What to Expect as a Participant

The specifics of what to expect during a clinical trial varies from study to study. For instance, participants may be required to make frequent trips to the study site or be hospitalized at times. During a trial, the research staff meets with participants regularly to monitor their health and safety.

Participants will continue to work with their oncologists to make sure trial treatments aren’t interfering with other medications.
