About the Fellowship
The Houston Methodist Gastroenterology Fellowship (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) #1444814251) is designed to develop the careers of future colleagues and leaders in community or academic gastroenterology and hepatology through comprehensive education, mentorship and intensive training in clinical practice and research. A strong clinical background and training experience are considered essential for each of these tracks. Our goal is to select the best clinicians and expose them to intensive training and scholarly activities.
Our program offers a unique opportunity to train and foster top-notch future physicians in these specialties. Located in the Texas Medical Center, we have exposure to a diverse patient population spanning seven Houston Methodist hospitals. We are ranked in 11 adult specialties by U.S. News & World Report and ranked 8th in the nation for gastroenterology and GI surgery.
We recognize that the future generations of competent gastroenterologists need to be fortified with the diverse range of knowledge and competencies. Our fellows are given the structure and supervision required to ensure that each are well-trained, competent gastroenterologists and are given guidance and mentorship toward their individual professional goals and aspirations. The three-year program fully integrates the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) core competencies and milestones through a required set of rotations, a didactic curriculum and elective rotations designed to broaden the base of knowledge. Our fellows, faculty and program are continuously evaluated to ensure success in achieving these competencies, goals and objectives.
All training is done at Houston Methodist Hospital and connected facilities in the Texas Medical Center. Fellows have unrivaled opportunity to train with both the academic and private faculty, as well as develop clinical or translational research projects at the Houston Methodist Research Institute.

Message from the Program Director
Welcome, and thank you for visiting the website of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship at Houston Methodist Hospital. Our service is ranked among the best programs by U.S. News & World Report. The Houston Methodist Hospital itself is ranked among the country's top hospitals in 10 specialties in U.S. News & World Report's 2022 "Best Hospitals" issue, ranked as the No. 1 hospital in Texas with a national ranking of No. 8 in Gastroenterology and GI surgery.
Our faculty members are experienced clinicians, educators and researchers with wide ranging areas of expertise across all subspecialties of gastroenterology and hepatology. Our fellowship spans three years with endoscopic training starting in the first day of fellowship. Our program is centered at Houston Methodist Hospital. The fellows also do clinical rotations at MD Anderson for GI oncology. Our clinical team includes our faculty and fellows along with residents from the Houston Methodist Internal Medicine Residency and medical students from Texas A&M College of Medicine, from both the traditional program and our unique EnMed program.
The clinical training environment allows for a wealth of diverse clinical exposure, spanning the entire spectrum of gastroenterology diseases from esophageal disorders, neurogastroenterology, pancreatobiliary, inflammatory bowel disease, to exposure and training of all hepatologic conditions including robust training in transplant hepatology.
Houston Methodist Hospital which is a nearly 950 bed hospital with five large intensive care units, with busy GI surgical services and a large multi-organ transplant program contribute to the abundance of clinical experience available. Along with the inpatient rotations, a comprehensive experience in outpatient clinic, including continuity clinic at Houston Methodist and at our community El Centro Clinic, as well as subspecialty clinics with our nationally and world-renowned faculty are a vital part of the program.
Our program participates in the NRMP match with applications through ERAS. We offer a traditional three-year ACGME-accredited fellowship. We also offer a Transplant Hepatology Fellowship as a dual track, or as a separate fourth year.
Should you have any additional questions, or need further clarification about the program, please do not hesitate to contact me or the fellowship coordinator, Tiffany Bachmann.
Thank you for your interest in our program. We wish you every success in your future career.
Sincerely,
Bincy P. Abraham, MD, MS, AGAF, FACG, FASGE
