Culture & Engagement — Learnings and Resources

The Office of Culture & Engagement learning team creates resources for all employees to learn and develop skills to discuss and understand building connections between our workforce communities at Houston Methodist. Developing these skills is essential to improving and enhancing the culture at Houston Methodist.

Starting with the foundational course “Together We Grow,” the learning team delivers various learning experiences that are available to all Houston Methodist employees.

Please see class descriptions below.

Together We Grow — All Employees and Physicians

The Together We Grow Virtual Learning Map® experience seeks to engage participants in conversation around our strengths and opportunities at Houston Methodist. This learning has been recognized as an important effort throughout our organization and reinforced by our executive team as a strategic priority. This 120-min session uses a visual metaphor to promote dialogue and understanding among team members from different parts of the organization.

The main objectives of Together We Grow are to:

  • Align our vision for a supportive culture at Houston Methodist, focusing on our I CARE values
  • Highlight the tools and drivers we’re using to grow our capabilities, both internally and externally
  • Make a personal connection to our vision and drivers, recognize our own biases and identify how we can make positive change

Recognizing the Impact of Microaggressions, Managing Unconscious Bias, Navigating Multigenerational Teams, Beyond Cultural Competency and Equitable Communication Learnings Available

The Recognizing Microaggressions-Staff & Physicians Learning Series offers tools to create inclusive language and enhance positive interactions, encourage discussions and promote positive change regarding microaggressions, which can lead to strained relationships and breakdowns in trust.

Unconscious bias can get in the way of a true connected and engaged culture. The Managing Unconscious Bias Learning Series provides you with the tools and skills to recognize and articulate various types of unconscious bias and effectively begin to mitigate them.

With many different generations represented in our workforce, it can become difficult to ensure we are communicating and collaborating effectively with the members of various generations on our team. The Navigating Multigenerational Teams Learning Series confronts assumptions and stereotypes, while providing steps to effectively work across generational divides.

The Beyond Cultural Competency course will help you gain the knowledge and skills to effectively recognize and appreciate cultural differences and the role empathy plays in effective cultural communication.

Equitable Communication is a comprehensive session designed to enhance your ability to engage in inclusive and respectful dialogue.
