The Advanced Heart Failure Program at Houston Methodist aims to offer the best care and outcomes for individuals with advanced heart failure. The program is a collaborative effort between DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center and J.C. Walter Jr. Transplant Center.

Care within our program starts with a comprehensive evaluation, where we leverage our extensive experience and cutting-edge imaging techniques to assess your heart condition and explore your options. We treat your symptoms of heart failure as well as your specific heart condition — with the ultimate goal being to help your heart heal.
While ventricular assist devices (VADs) and/or heart transplants may ultimately be needed, our experts are always exploring innovative options so you can live with your own heart as long as possible.

If heart failure progresses and a heart transplant or VAD is needed, we partner with specialists from J.C. Walter Jr. Transplant Center to provide outstanding care and helpful resources.
Our program has an extensive history and track record performing numerous heart transplants and implanting mechanical heart pumps. We also have expertise in multiple organ transplant options for those who are in need. In addition, dedicated coordinators and social workers help you prepare for your operation and stay healthy after.
