Pathology Informatics
Medical decisions surrounding patient care and hospital improvements are increasingly data-driven. The Houston Methodist Hospital Department of Pathology and Genomic Medicine realizes that with the high volume of data available to clinicians, training in the field of clinical informatics is increasingly important. Synthesizing and analyzing data from all aspects of the patient care continuum (admittance, stay, discharge), can identify areas and trends that can ultimately improve patient care.
The department offers a two-year ACGME-accredited fellowship in Clinical Informatics. Strengths of the program include the central role of academic informaticians from the department in management of clinical laboratory data, and close collaboration with research and scholarship efforts of informatics-focused faculty in the Houston Methodist Research Institute (HMRI). Fellows will work with faculty who are experts in their areas of interest throughout their fellowship. This close collaboration between the academic physicians and the fellows allows for an individually tailored experience in a wide variety of clinical areas, building on a firm foundation of academic clinical informatics education.
