2021 CHN SYMPOSIUM
On December 8, 2021, The Center for Health & Nature, a unique collaboration between Houston Methodist, Texas A&M University and Texan by Nature, hosted their 2021 symposium: The Nature of Change.
The program featured Texan by Nature President and CEO Joni Carswell; keynote speaker Dennis Kiley, President of EcoPsychology Initiative; and Dr. Jay Maddock, Professor, Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, School of Pubic Health, Texas A&M University. The symposium was comprised of three segments: 1) A Healthier You, 2) Working to Make a Difference and 3) Planning Comes Naturally.
Dr. Robert Jackson moderated the first session, A Healthier You, with Dr. Jay Maddock; Dr. Jennifer Roberts, Associate Professor, Kinesiology, University of Maryland; and Dr. David Sabgir.
The second panel, Working to Make a Difference, was moderated by Dr. Khurram Nasir and included presentations by Dr. Shipeng Lu, Associate Director, Center for Health Systems & Design and Senior Lecturer, Department of Architecture, Texas A&M University; Bill Browning, Terrapin Bright Green; and Sarah Kinnison, Park Rx Utah, Salt Lake County Health Department.
"Planning Comes Naturally" was the final panel and was moderated by Cynthia Pickett-Stevenson. Participants included Alan Pan, Data Scientist, Center for Outcomes Research, Houston Methodist; Dr. Aaron Hipp, Associate Professor of Community Health and Sustainability, NCSU; Jana Renner, Senior Program Officer, Paso del Norte Health Foundation; and Dr. Christine Ekenga, Assistant Professor, Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health, Emory University.
