Dr. Karmonik’s research has included the effect of lipid modification on peripheral arterial disease, brain volumetric analysis and cognition in Parkinson’s disease, reliable measurement of brain glutamate levels in ALS patients with 3.0 t 1h-mrs, atherosclerotic plaque composition in peripheral vascular disease, and brain imaging in stuttering. Dr. Karmonik is also the director of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) facility in the Translational Imaging Core at the Houston Methodist Research Institute.
