Eligibility & Application

APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Houston Methodist participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Note: in ERAS and NRMP, we are listed under the name METHODIST HOSPITAL (Houston).
  • Applications must be processed through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
  • While we preferentially review applications from those who signal our program, we also consider applicants who do not signal us, particularly those who have indicated a geographic preference for the Texas area.
  • All applications are carefully reviewed. Selected applicants are notified electronically to interview through ERAS/THALAMUS.
  •  All PGY1 positions are offered through the NRMP.
  • "Pre-Match" positions are not offered.

Drug & Tobacco Screening:  Applicants will be tested for nicotine and drug usage during the post-offer physical.  If an applicant tests positive for nicotine use, including nicotine gum and patches, the offer will be rescinded, and individuals will be given the opportunity to participate in a free Houston Methodist-provided tobacco cessation program.  Applicants wishing to reapply after testing positive for nicotine may do so 90 days after the date the initial offer was rescinded.

If the applicant tests positive for drug use, the offer will be rescinded.  Job seekers wishing to reapply after the drug screening is positive may do so one year after the date the initial offer was rescinded.

Background Check:  Prior to employment start date, job seekers must complete a criminal background check.

INTERVIEW DAYS

Our interviews will be conducted virtually for the 2024-2025 interview season.  Applications will be reviewed upon the program's release date in September.  Interview invitations will not be extended until all aspects of the applications are reviewed.

Interviews will be offered on select days beginning the week of October 21, 2024 thru December 18, 2024.

Our interview format:

  • Welcome from the Program Director and/or Program Leadership
  • Morning Report Case Conference
  • Chief Resident Overview
  • Two faculty interviews
  • Q&A sessions with residents

We will offer an in-person open house after interviews have concluded for those applicants who are interested.  This will consist of meeting with the chiefs and other residents within our program and a tour of the facilities.
