On Wednesday, April 20, the new Houston Methodist Spring Emergency Care Center, located on 5303 FM 2920 at Gosling Road officially opened and accepted its first patient. Inclement weather prevented the emergency care center from opening on Monday, April 18 as previously scheduled.

Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital recently celebrated the occasion with a community open house & blessing ceremony.

“A lot of people ask me what’s the difference between an emergency care center and an urgent care center. This facility is a full-service emergency room with board-certified emergency medicine physicians and specially trained staff who are ready to handle life threatening medical emergencies,” said Keith Barber, chief executive officer, Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital & senior vice president, Houston Methodist. “Houston Methodist Emergency Care Centers offer the same standard of hospital level care – only now we are located in the neighborhoods we serve,” said Barber.

The 9,600-square-foot facility is equipped with 10 large, private treatment rooms, a fetal monitoring room for expectant mothers, and on-site imaging and diagnostic technology.
Additionally, the emergency care center provides tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), which is a clot busting therapy, to treat people arriving at the facility with symptoms of a stroke. It’s a standard of care Judy Chen, a Champions Forest resident who attended the open house and blessing ceremony, has come to expect from Houston Methodist.

“My husband had a stroke in 2008 and I didn’t know anything about strokes,” said Judy Chen. “I drove him to the emergency room at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, because I didn’t know I should’ve called 911. He survived and now I know, every minute counts and time is tissue,” said Chen.

Houston Methodist Spring Emergency Care Center is a department of Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. Last year, the hospital opened the Houston Methodist Cypress Emergency Care Center located at 27560 U.S. 290 Frontage Road at Fairfield Creek Drive. The development of freestanding facilities is part of the hospital’s vision to expand and better meet the needs of the community. Houston Methodist also has a presence in the French Quarter, a business park on FM 2920 in Spring, that supports two physician practices: Houston Methodist Primary Care Group and Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.

“Bringing quality health care closer to the people we serve is our priority at Houston Methodist. By offering services such as those at the Houston Methodist Spring Emergency Care Center, we continue to be proactive in ensuring a healthier community,” said Barber.
