Houston Methodist St. John Hospital and Big League Dreams Sports Park in League City have signed a unique partnership agreement that will provide a wide range of benefits to local athletes.
As a presenting sponsor of the Bay Area’s premier baseball/softball/indoor soccer facility, Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine will offer on-site injury evaluation and prevention clinics, kinesiology taping, professional athlete appearances, pitching clinics and more.
“This is a great fit for both of our organizations,” said Dan Newman, CEO of Houston Methodist St. John Hospital. “Big League Dreams Sports Park brings together athletes of all ages to play in one-of-a-kind settings and Houston Methodist St. John has a long history of keeping athletes healthy and in the game. We are thrilled to be a presenting sponsor of Big League Dreams and we’re excited about being a part of the many youth and adult leagues and tournaments at the facility.” The three-year partnership agreement was finalized in March.
In addition to its six Major League-replica ballparks, Big League Dreams in League City recently opened a 20,000-square-foot, climate-controlled indoor soccer/special events facility. Big League Dreams hosts a number of baseball, fast- and slow-pitch softball and indoor soccer leagues and tournaments each year, drawing thousands of athletes and more than 200,000 spectators annually.
“This is a great opportunity that allows us to reach local athletes with information and assistance that can help them perform better and prevent injury, as well as receive treatment and follow-up care if needed,” says Javier Rios, M.D., a primary care sports medicine specialist at Houston Methodist St. John. “Athletes want to stay healthy and if something does happen, they want to get the best possible medical care and get back in the game. This partnership will help make that possible.”
