Volunteer Opportunities at Houston Methodist Continuing Care Hospital

Houston Methodist Continuing Care Hospital welcomes volunteers who want to offer their time, talent and dedication. Volunteers provide a valuable service to both patients and families.

There are a variety of volunteer roles to fit individual time commitments, schedules, abilities and interests. Volunteers may work directly with patients or choose to work behind-the-scenes, providing administration support.

Volunteer Opportunities

First Impressions
The First Impressions program creates a welcoming environment for patients, families and customers the moment they step through our front door. Volunteers greet visitors, give directions, escort them to other departments, or provide wheelchair assistance if needed. They are knowledgeable about many aspects of our hospital and are able to answer a wide variety of questions.

Imaging Center
Volunteers welcome patients to imaging and escort them to their area of service.

Art Therapy
Volunteers with artistic talents work with patients and interested family members to use the creative process of drawing and painting as a means of expression and an outlet for feelings that arise from disease symptoms, treatment and recovery. Artist volunteers can create portraits of patients and family members, or assist patients in their own artistic expression.

Patient Family Centered Care Program (PFCC)
Volunteers participating in the PFCC program visit families and patients in their rooms with the goal to meet their needs on the spot if possible. PFCC volunteers work together with the staff to enhance patient satisfaction, providing the Houston Methodist experience to every patient and family member.

Chaplaincy Care
Chaplaincy Care volunteers are an extension of our Spiritual Care Department. Volunteers support staff chaplains in providing comfort to our patients and families during critical situations.

Music RX Program
Musicians of all ages perform throughout our hospital, in the atrium lobby and even in individual patient rooms. Singers, violinists, string instruments performers, guitarists and flutists are especially appreciated on the units. We also welcome piano players to play on our lobby piano.

No-One Alone Program
Participating volunteers receive special training to provide vital support to patients who suffer from loneliness, boredom, anxiety, low spirits or fear when not accompanied by family or friends.

At-Home Volunteer Opportunities
We have several programs designed for individuals who are interested in assisting the hospital in a volunteer capacity from home. You can earn service hours for these “at-home” programs, and if requested, these hours can be tracked and documentation provided.

Please check back with us periodically as new opportunities will be added in the future. We offer the following: DVD drive, magazine drive, art pack, deck cards drive and fringed fleece blankets for adult cancer patients.
